How is gold jewellery hallmarked?
Hallmarking is an assessment of the quality on the gold jewellery. Hallmarked gold ensures that the purity, of the gold has been tested as per the norms laid by the Bureau of Indian Standards and you pay the right price for the purity and amount of gold you are buying. Hall marking is done at Assaying and Hallmarking Centres or AHACs which are licensed by the BIS. The gold being hallmarked undergoes various processes to verify the quality of the gold. Once the gold is scrutinised, the four signs of hallmark are embossed on the gold jewellery. BIS also conducts periodic inspections at the hallmarking centres to ensure adherence. The video explains these steps and processes in detail.
